COMMON REGULATIONS
- RHB WCE Century Ride 2024 (“RWCR”) (the “Event”) is co-organised by West Coast Expressway (“WCE”) and GoSportz Sdn. Bhd (“the Organiser”) with full support from the Ministry of Works (“MoW”), Polis Diraja Malaysia (“PDRM”), Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (“LLM”) and Malaysia National Cycling Federation (“MNCF”). These Rules and Regulations (“R&R”), the Waiver, and all the Terms and Conditions (“T&C”) for riders can be found at https://wcecenturyride.com (“Official Website”).
- By participating in the Event, a rider, defined as an individual who has entered the event, is deemed to have given written permission to the Organiser for the collection, analysis and compilation of personal information relating to that rider. By completing the official entry form, which includes online registration, the rider explicitly indicates his/her agreement to comply to these R&R.
- The Organiser reserves the right to use any photographs, motion pictures, images, recordings, or other records of the Event and its riders for various commercial advertising and promotional purposes.
- The rider, who has registered to take part in the Event is deemed to have given written permission to the Organiser for the collection, analysis and compilation of personal information relating to that rider. The Organiser may exercise this discretion as they deem fit, including and without any limitation, information for their programme, planning, data-processing, statistical or risk-analysis, research, fundraising, and/or any other purpose related to their functions.
- The rider agrees to:
- Provide true, accurate, current and complete information about the rider captured in the registration form (the “Registration Data”);
- Maintain the security of the rider’s password and identification; and
- Maintain and promptly update the Registration Data to ensure that it is true, accurate, current and complete. The Organiser may contact the rider from time to time by email. Any notice sent to the email address registered with the Organiser shall be deemed to be received by the rider concerned.
- After registration, there will be no fee refund for riders who do not in due course take part in the Event for any reason whatsoever. Registration is strictly non-transferable.
- The Organiser reserves the right to modify or substitute any of these R&R and/or T&C from time to time as it deems fit. If there is ambiguity in any of these provisions, the Organiser shall be the sole entity authorised to provide interpretation, taking into consideration the interests of all affected riders. Any amendments to these R&R and/or T&C will be updated on the Official Website.
- The Organiser reserves the right to cancel the Event without prior notification to riders at any time, in which case the Organiser will endeavour to notify riders before the Event date. If the Event is cancelled, there will be no refund of fees paid and the Organiser shall not be liable for any consequential losses or inconveniences.
- The Organiser reserves the right, at any time and without prior notice to riders, to modify the Event cycling routes as it deems fit for the safety of the riders and / or to mitigate any potential hazards during the Event. In such situations, every effort will be made to inform riders prior to the Event date. The Organiser shall not be liable for any losses or inconveniences resulting from these changes.
- In cases of registration on behalf of any participant, the principal member or the online user account owner bears full responsibility for informing each member of the Event’s R&R. Furthermore, they are deemed to have obtained the approval of each member participant to accept the R&R on their behalf. Any member participant who has authorised this online registration by their friend is also deemed to have read and accepted the Event’s R&R.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
By registering his / her entry each rider indicates his / her acceptance of the conditions below. To participate in the Event, riders need to adhere to any age requirements that are specified for their respective category. Riders must adhere to the following: –
Equipment and Age Group
Distance Categories of 160km and 90km
- For registration purposes, participants’ ages will be determined based on their age as of 31 December 2024.
- Participants in the Men & Women categories for the 160km and 90km distance categories, must be 17 years old and above as of 31 December 2024. Categories include:
- Men’s Energetic (Age of 17 – 29)
- Men’s Dynamic (Age of 30 – 44)
- Men’s Legendary (Age of 45 & above)
- Women’s Open (Age of 17 & above)
- Participants below the age of 18 in 160km and 90km category are required to obtain parental / guardian’s consent and complete the indemnity declaration form as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon registration and email it to support@gosportz.my. Failure to do so may result in the Organiser’s right to refuse entry.
- Pro-cyclist, Continental Team, State & National riders are ALLOWED to participate in any of the categories stated above.
- The distances and durations listed for all ride categories are approximate and subject to change at the Organiser’s discretion, should circumstances require such adjustments.
- In the 160km or 90km ride, ONLY Road Bikes, Sports Bikes, Touring Bikes, Hybrid Bikes, Mini Velo Bikes, Folding Bikes and Mountain Bikes are allowed.
- The following bikes are STRICTLY NOT ALLOWED for any category:
– Bikes with Disc Wheels / Rim Covers;
– Bikes with Aero or Extension Bars;
– Bikes with Fixed Wheels with No Brakes;
– Fixie Bikes;
– Specialist Time Trial Bikes;
– Motorized Bikes;
– Unicycles;
– Scooters.
- Bikes with Drop Handle Bars and / or Disc Brakes are allowed.
- Tandem bicycles are allowed for visually handicapped riders ONLY, and participants should seek clearance from the Organiser on a case-by-case basis.
- Riders who arrive at the Event with unapproved bikes will regretfully be unable to participate.
Distance Categories of 28km
- The 28km category (fun ride) is open to participants aged 12 years old and above, which is our cut-off date for the qualifying age of the event. For example, if a participant is 11 years old on 31 December 2024, but will turn 12 on 1 January 2025, they will not be eligible to participate in this event.
- Participants below the age of 18 in 28km category are required to obtain parental / guardian’s consent and complete the indemnity declaration form as deemed necessary by the Organiser upon registration and email it to support@gosportz.my. Failure to do so may result in the Organiser’s right to refuse entry.
Corporate / Team Category
- The organiser reserves the right to invite or reject any corporate / team from joining this event.
- A maximum of 5 members is allowed for this corporate / open team bike ride.
- To determine the winning teams for corporate / team, the score of best 3 members in a team will be taken into account. Additionally, every individual in a team is qualified to win the individual title of the respective categories of 160km of Men or Women Category. If any team fails to comply with the conditions stipulated above, the team will be disqualified immediately, and any win in Corporate / Team will not be recognized.
Prize Winner
- A winning participant may elect to receive an award in another prize category to which he / she is entitled to, which might offer a higher value prize. Notwithstanding the participant’s election, his / her finishing positions in each relevant prize categories will not change.
- Prizes may be awarded in non-monetary forms.
- The Organiser reserves the right to replace any winner if he / she is found to be disqualified.
- All prize-winning participants must present their original identification documents, such as an Identity Card or Passport, at the result verification counter located beside the medal collection tent to collect their prizes. Participants who fail to verify their identification within 15 minutes may have their results cancelled and replaced by subsequent winners.
- Prize winners are required to report to the prize-giving zone located beside the stage. If a cyclist fails to do so after repeated announcements or within 15 minutes, the Organiser may donate the cash prize money to charity.
- Prizes not claimed within two (2) weeks from the Event date will be forfeited and the Organiser will have the discretion to redistribute or dispose of these proceeds as it sees fit.
- Prizes must be accepted in the form as presented by the Organiser. They are not transferable or exchangeable for cash and are subject to the R&R and / or T&C as determined by the Organiser.
- The winners of all applicable categories will be determined by the “Gun Time”.
- All prize winners or potential prize winners wishing to appeal or dispute results must do so in person and in writing on-site. Appeals must be submitted within 15 minutes of the results being posted on the board at the Event site. To file an appeal, participants must provide an appeal fee of MYR200 in cash and a completed appeal form, available at the Info Counter at the event site. Whenever possible, appeals should be made before the prize presentation. The Organiser reserves the right to reject any disputes or appeals made after the prize presentation.
- For all other participants, disputes and appeals regarding the results must be submitted in writing including electronic mail within 3 days after the event day. The Organiser reserves the right not to entertain any dispute or appeal after 6pm on 22 May 2024.
- All disputes regarding the results will be decided by the Organiser and MNCF, and their decision will be final. No further disputes will be entertained thereafter.
RIDE REGULATIONS
- Riders are strictly NOT ALLOWED to transfer their ride entries to another party or change ride categories once their registration is confirmed.
- All riders are to start in their allocated pen and wave time.
- For safety reasons, riders who do not start at their respective flag-off time may be disqualified and not allowed onto the course.
- All riders must follow the designated routes and are solely responsible for adhering to the designated route and passing timing points.
Cut-off Time
- Route officials will divert riders who are unlikely to finish the ride within the stipulated duration to designated diversion points along the route. For their safety and to avoid being caught in between live traffic, riders must follow instructions. Failure to do so may result in immediate removal from the route. Finisher’s medals will not be issued to riders in this situation. In the competitive rides category, these riders will be recorded as ‘Disqualified’ or ‘DNF’ (Did Not Finish) in the official timing.
- During the ride, all riders must adhere to the standard Highway Code, national rules of the road and follow the directions provided by police, traffic management 42. personnel and Event officials.
- Riders MUST NOT:
– Ride without a protective cycling helmet;
– Ride dangerously or negligently; or
– Use MP3 Players, iPods, Walkmans or other mobile music devices while riding.
– Use handheld cameras or telephones while riding.
- At all times, riders are required to stay behind the safety escort lead vehicles and in front of the safety escort rear vehicles.
- Helmets are a mandatory requirement for participation in all ride categories, including the 160km, 90km or 28km ride. Rear lights are optional but highly recommended to facilitate good distance judgement while cycling.
Additional Rules and Regulations
- You are NOT ALLOWED to ride under someone else’s name or bib number under any circumstances.
- The Event will take place regardless of bad weather and will only be cancelled, re-routed or stopped in extreme circumstances for safety reasons. The final decision on this will rest with the Organiser.
- Child seats on bicycles are not allowed due to safety reasons.
- All race packs that are not collected on the designated collection day(s) will be available for collection one week after the said event day for a continuous 14 days within the working hours at our office. Thereafter the uncollected race pack(s) will be unpacked and no more collections will be allowed.
RIDERS’ ENTITLEMENTS
- All riders who successfully complete the ride in their chosen category will be awarded a Finisher’s Medal upon the presentation of their Cycling Bib to the respective officials.
- Finisher’s Medals are to be collected on Event day.
- Finishing times will be recorded by the official timing devices and will be posted on the website within 5 working days after the Event’s completion.
SAFETY MEASURES
- While the Organiser will take reasonable precautions to ensure riders’ safety, participants in the Event do so at their own risk. The Organiser will not be held responsible or liable for any injury or death arising from training for or participating in the Event. Riders are strongly encouraged to consult their medical practitioner before registration and before the Event day.
- The form on the reverse side of the cycling bib must be fully and accurately completed. Riders are required to attach the assigned bib to the lower back of their cycling jersey or t-shirt, the bike flag under the seat post of their bicycle, and the bib with timing to the front of the bicycle handlebars. Riders not wearing a bib will be asked to leave the route.
- Before the Event, all Riders must check and service their bikes to ensure they are roadworthy prior to the start.
- Riders should always be aware of other cyclists around them.
- All Riders are expected to keep to the left-hand side of the road unless overtaking, and must adhere to traffic rules at all times. Overtaking on the left-hand side is dangerous and is NOT ALLOWED.
- Riders are required to call out when passing fellow cyclists.
MEDICAL RECOMMENDATIONS
- Stationary Neutral Services for bike maintenance and Medical Support will be available throughout the Event. To receive such support, riders MUST wear their cycling bibs.
- Riders who require mechanical support or medical assistance while on the route may seek help from security personnel, event staff or traffic management personnel.
- Medical personnel reserve the right to remove a rider if he / she is judged to be physically incapable of continuing his / her ride without posing a risk of serious injury to him / herself or others.
- Medical personnel reserve the right to make the final call to send casualties to the nearest and / or recommended hospital.
- The Organiser recommends the following measures to reduce medical risk:
– Riders should drink plenty of fluids before, during and after their ride.
– Riders over the age of thirty-five (35) years and who have not engaged in regular exercise in the recent past are strongly encouraged to undergo a medical check-up before the Event.
– Undertake a proper training regime to prepare for the Event.
INSURANCE POLICY
- Riders participating in the Event are advised to practise safe cycling, and they do so at their own risk. Accordingly, the Organiser shall not be liable for any bodily injuries or loss and / or damage to property, whether personal or otherwise, arising in any way.
- The Organiser will not be liable for the actions of riders or other third parties, not employed by the Organiser or acting on its behalf.
- All riders are recommended to have their own personal accident or health insurance.
- There will be no further extensions of any registration periods.
WEATHER POLICY
The Event will take place rain or shine, unless the Organiser determines that conditions are too dangerous. This decision will be made prudently either three (3) days before the Event day or on the Event day by the Organiser in consultation with local law enforcement officials. If the Event is cancelled due to inclement weather, there will be no refunds or transfers. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances, the Organiser reserves the right to alter, cancel or eliminate any / all portions of the Event.
CONSENT TO THE EVENT
By participating in the Event, I agree to abide by these Rules & Regulations. West Coast Expressway Sdn. Bhd. and GoSportz Sdn Bhd, the Organiser, reserves the right to modify these Rules & Regulations in any way and at any time, as deemed necessary or appropriate, without materially affecting the terms and conditions of this cycling event. I consent to the use of any photographs, motion pictures, images, recordings, or any other records that may include me, in any record of the Event or for future promotion of the Event.
WAIVER OF THE EVENT
In consideration of the Organiser accepting this entry, and the registration to participate in the Event, I hereby waive and release any and all rights to claims for damages I may have against the Organiser holding this Event, their agents, representatives, successors, assigns, sponsors for any and all injuries, death and invalidity I may sustain before, during or after the course of the Event or arising as a result of it. I hereby indemnify the Organiser and release them from any liability for claims or damages that may arise as a result of the above.
